Kawasaki has replaced the Z400 within the Sugomi Z family for the 2024 model year with the Z500, which has been launched in two versions: Z500 and Z500 SE. In terms of specifications, the Z500 is almost identical to its predecessor, but with more muscle.
While in the past the biggest battle was fought in the middle segment, in 2024 the A2 segment has become at least as important for manufacturers and so it is not surprising that Kawasaki has leveled up with the little Z for the A2 driving license.
In terms of design, the Z500 is drizzled with the same Sugomi sauce as its predecessor (and all other Z models), equipped with a bicycle section that is virtually identical in terms of dimensions to the Z400 (only the steering head angle is slightly different) and, according to Kawasaki, on a 250cc is based.
The only – and most important – difference is in the engine block, which now has 451 cc lung capacity, which was achieved by increasing the stroke length of the piston. The top power has remained the same at 45 hp, but is now delivered at a lower speed (9000 rpm). Torque, on the other hand, has increased, to 42.6 Nm at 6,000 rpm (38 Nm @ 8,000 rpm for the Z400).
Kawasaki has launched the Z500 in two versions, but only the more luxurious Z500 SE will be available in the Benelux. Compared to the standard version (not available from us), the SE version is distinguished by the well-known TFT color display (standard version has a newly designed LCD screen), an undercowl, a USB connection point, LED indicators, a grille for the radiator, frame sliders, a cover for the pillion seat and a tank pad and knee grip pads.
