Kawasaki unveils updated Z900RS for 2026

Kawasaki takes its iconic retro naked to a new level with the completely new Z900RS 2026. The legendary four-cylinder combines nostalgic design with modern technology, and proves that classic style and contemporary performance can go hand in hand.

Kawasaki unveils updated Z900RS for 2026

Since its introduction in 2018, the Z900RS has become one of the most popular retro bikes in its class. For 2026, the model will receive a thorough update that goes beyond a new color. The engine, chassis and electronics have been overhauled to make the RS even more refined, powerful and comfortable – without compromising its Z1 DNA.

Refined four-in-line character

The heart of the Z900RS remains the characteristic 948 cc four-cylinder, but a lot has changed internally. Thanks to new camshaft profiles, a higher compression ratio, modified intake ducts and updated ECU tuning, the engine delivers more power and responds more alertly in the mid and top range. A lighter flywheel ensures faster throttle response, while the electronic throttle valves (ETV) provide an even more refined and controllable throttle feel.

More comfort and technology

The 2026 version will receive a major technological upgrade. Cruise control, a Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) for smooth upshifts and downshifts, and an IMU-supported assistance system with Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF) make the Z900RS more modern than ever. The lean angle-dependent traction control and the improved ABS system provide extra confidence without disrupting the pure driving experience.

The 41 mm upside-down front fork is adjustable for rebound damping and spring preload, while the horizontal Back-Link rear suspension offers a balanced mix between comfort and sporty precision. Radially mounted brake calipers guarantee powerful, well-controlled braking performance – exactly what you would expect from a modern RS.

Authentically retro, with an eye for detail

Visually, the Z900RS remains true to its roots. The iconic teardrop tank, the ducktale rear and the oval LED taillight are clear references to the Z1 from 1972. New for 2026 is the 70 mm longer megaphone exhaust, which not only provides a deeper, warmer sound, but also remains shiny thanks to the double-walled design. Every detail exudes Japanese craftsmanship: from the brushed cooling fins to the double analogue counters and classic logos.

Z900RS SE & Black Ball Edition

In addition to the standard version, Kawasaki also offers two special variants. The Z900RS SE gets a Brembo braking system with radial calipers, Öhlins S46 rear shock absorber with remote adjustment, USB-C connection and the exclusive “Fireball” paint scheme, inspired by the original Z1.
Those who prefer a subdued look can opt for the Black Ball Edition, with a deep black finish on the handlebars, levers, fuel cap, wheels and heat shields – minimalist, but full of character.

Availability and colors

The new Kawasaki Z900RS and Z900RS SE will be available at official Kawasaki dealers from mid-December 2025 in the following versions:

Z900RS: Candy Tone Red, Ebony (Black Ball Edition)
Z900RS SE: Metallic Spark Black (Fireball)
