Kia and Hyundai are developing a lunar rover

Hyundai Motor Group – the parent company of Hyundai and Kia, among others – is working on the development of a lightweight electric car that, if everything goes smoothly, will be shot to the moon in 2027.

Hyundai and Kia do not destroy the car that they will be busy with in the coming years, but actually launch it to the moon. Hyundai Motor Group has started the development of an advanced and lightweight vehicle that will explore the lunar landscape and conduct research without a human companion. The car should be ready for the first test work in the second half of next year. In 2027, the small lunar explorer should be ready to exchange the terrestrial for the lunar.

For the development of its lunar rover, Hyundai Motor Group is collaborating with six Korean institutes in the aerospace sector: Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI), Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT), Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), and the Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH). However, Hyundai Motor Group plays a major role in it. For example, extensive use is made of the knowledge and hardware that brands such as Hyundai and Kia have in the field of robotics, cameras, sensors, suspension, solar panels, batteries and charging technology.

In the end, the trolley only has to weigh about 70 kilos. Definitely not wrong. The plan is to eventually launch the lunar rover to the south pole of the moon to conduct various scientific missions there.
