Kia will present the Concept EV9 during Automobility in Los Angeles, a preview of a large electric SUV that will eventually take a place above the EV6 in Kia’s electric model range.
While the Seven shines on the Hyundai stand, Kia in Los Angeles looks ahead to its future electric SUV with this Concept EV9. The Concept EV9 is, as its name implies, still a study model, but one that already gives away quite a bit of what you can expect from the brand in the field of electric SUVs within the next few years. Within the next few years, Kia will put an SUV derived from this Concept EV9 a few steps above the Kia EV6 in the range.
Kia Concept EV9
The Concept EV9 looks ahead to Kia’s second in the base as a developed electric car, a car that is attached to the EV label that the brand already applies to the EV6. Like all future dedicated electric models from Kia and Hyundai will be placed on the E-GMP platform specifically intended for electric cars. In addition, Kia will also introduce electric versions of cars in the coming years that will also be available with combustion engines. The exact specifications of the powertrain are kept under wraps by Kia, but they are not very relevant for a concept car like this one, although the intended range of 483 kilometers that has been released gives a nice indication of what you can expect from this car in that respect. show car derivative future Kia EV9 can expect.
big
Although the Kia Concept EV9 makes its public debut at the same car show as the Hyundai Seven, the two SUVs are by no means equal. The Concept EV9 and Seven are just as different from each other as the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Not only do the two conceptual electric SUVs have their own body, the dimensions also differ. For example, the wheelbase of the Kia Concept EV9 with 3.1 meters is about 10 centimeters shorter than that of its SUV brother from Hyundai. Strikingly, the wheelbase of the EV6 is also 10 centimeters shorter than that of the Ioniq 5. Although we have yet to guess the size of the Hyundai Seven, Kia neatly reports that the Concept EV9 is 4.93 meters long, 2.06 meters wide. and is 1.79 meters high. Those sizes make it more than 10 centimeters longer than the Sorento, but again 7 centimeters shorter than Kia’s largest existing SUV: the Telluride. Like that SUV, the Concept EV9 has three rows of seats, indicating that the eventual EV9 will most likely be available as a seven-seater.

design
The Concept EV9 also has its own character in terms of appearance. Kia’s electric SUV, with its angular shapes, relatively upright windscreen, high square nose and chunky wheel arches, simply looks tough and robust. Almost every line seems to have been drawn with a ruler. The well-known Tiger Nose grille that Kia applied for years evolved on the EV6 into what Kia calls the Digital Tiger Face. With the Concept EV9 front, Kia’s design department has gone one step further. We see thin, S-shaped LED lighting with a whole series of colored LEDs next to it.

The lighting at the back is also special. The LED units here follow both the line of the flank and the contours of the rear window. The tail lift is located near the right rear wheel arch. Nice details: solar panels have been installed around the cooling opening in the hood that rake in extra energy and the roof rails can be hidden in the roof at the touch of a button when not in use. The strikingly designed wheels, in which angular and round shapes are combined, are perhaps the most literal example of the Oppositions Uniteddesign language with which Kia pours over its new models.

Interior
Just like the exterior, Kia has also worked on the interior of the Concept EV9. The minimalist-looking dashboard is partly filled by a 27-inch large and therefore huge display that functions as both an infotainment system and instrumentation. Below the optically floating screen are touch-sensitive shortcuts. The strikingly designed steering wheel, with touch buttons on it, can be completely folded away in the dashboard. Remarkably enough, this has nothing to do with autonomous capacities, especially on paper.
Kia introduces three interior modes of which only the Active Mode – with the steering wheel unfolded – is intended for while driving. Kia describes Pause Mode as a mode in which the interior is transformed into a kind of lounge in which the seats are turned towards each other, although the seats in the second row can also be transformed into tables. Enjoy Mode is for those who like to enjoy the outdoors. In this mode, the third row seats rotate and the tailgate opens. Nice sitting. Have fun watching.
