Battery preconditioning
Kia has an improvement for the EV6 ready that with winter just around the corner. The battery can now be preheated to shorten the charging time.
Although the weather is still quite mild, it won’t be long before the frost is back on the car in the morning. EV drivers know that recharging sometimes takes a little longer than in the summer. Preheating the battery can then offer solace and that is exactly what is possible with the Kia EV6. The related Hyundai Ioniq 5 can already do that, now the EV6 follows.
Kia reports that the so-called ‘preconditioning’ is immediately available for the EV6 of this model year and that the function will become standard next year. In extreme cases, it can reduce charging times by 50 percent compared to low temperatures without a preheated battery. It is also possible to automatically preheat the battery if the car sees that it is necessary. If you enter a fast charger into your navigation system and the EV6 notices that the battery is colder than 21 degrees, the preheating will help to get to an optimal temperature. When the battery is up to temperature, the preheating switches off again.
The upgrade doesn’t just apply to new Kia’s EV6. “Kia Netherlands recommends EV6 drivers interested in this upgrade to make this known to the Kia dealer prior to a regular workshop visit,” the brand states.
