Kia EV9

After the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 followed, but Kia skips a few steps. After the Kia EV6, the EV7 or EV8 will not come, but a leech of an electric SUV called EV9. In a dark teaser video, Kia already releases fragments of the appearance of its new electric top model, but the EV9 does not have to remain in the darkness for long.

The EV6 is the first and so far only car developed as an electric model, but it is certainly not the last. As early as 2021, with the Concept EV9, Kia was looking ahead to a large electric SUV with seven seats that would eventually become a production version. That will be there, later this month. Before Kia shows the EV9 in its entirety and releases all specifications, it first presents a teaser video.

Kia Concept EV9

A lot of the Kia Concept EV9 seems to remain intact.

Kia EV9: eccentric

Earlier photos of packed test copies of Kia’s electric top model already made it clear that the EV9 will look quite similar to its conceptual predecessor. The Kia EV9 will be as big as it will be angular and Kia’s drawing masters do not seem to have shied away from actually translating various design details of the Concept EV9 into a production version. For example, the strikingly angular flared wheel arches survive the transition to the production stage and the steeply rising shoulder line also remains intact.

Even the bold lighting that graced the front of the Concept EV9 remains intact to some degree. The EV9 that Kia shows has a similar string of LED daytime running lights in its snout as the Concept EV9 that more or less optically encloses the actual headlights placed next to it. Just like the Concept EV9, the EV9 even has LED lighting in the panel between the headlights. An important side note here: the EV9 coming to the Netherlands will not immediately have this illuminated grille at its market introduction. Kia’s teaser material undoubtedly gives a very good idea of what the EV9 will look like here.

The final taillights are also very similar to those of the Concept EV9.

At the rear, the production-ready Kia EV9 also shows strong similarities to the study model that preceded it. The electric SUV will have taillights that follow the shape of the coach and even dive into the tailgate under the rear window. The light units themselves have a striking signature, complete with thinner and thicker parts. The sheet metal of the tailgate is remarkably quietly designed. No creases, corners or indentations here. The license plate apparently gets a spot in the rear bumper. The handles are recessed into the doors, just like the Kia EV6.

E-GMP power for Kia EV9

As before with the new Niro, Kia chooses to have the actual unveiling of the Kia EV9 take place in two phases. In the middle of this month, Kia will reveal the complete appearance of the EV9. All technical specifications will follow at the end of the month. We can already tell you that the Kia EV9, like the EV6, is enthroned on the E-GMP basis. That piece of technology specially developed for electric cars undoubtedly offers space for versions with two and four-wheel drive and therefore with one or two electric motors. Count on an SUV with a length of about 5 meters and a wheelbase of about 3 meters.

More later this month!
