Kia is sharpening its plans in the field of electrification. By 2045, the brand wants to be CO2-neutral and that includes a huge focus on electric and electrified powertrains.
Kia may not have signed the Glasgow Declaration on Zero Emission Cars and Vans, but that certainly does not mean that the manufacturer is turning its nose up at the electrification of its model range. Kia reports today that it will only supply electrified cars in Europe from 2035. Kia also has big EV plans outside the European borders. For example, the brand has set itself the goal of only supplying cars with electrified powertrains in ‘other major world markets’ from 2040. We are awaiting a response from Kia whether it concerns only fully electric models, or also (mild) hybrids and plug-ins.
Kia also pays attention to its CO2 emissions. The brand intends to be CO2 neutral by 2045 at the latest. Of course that has to do with the products that the brand provides, but also with things like production, logistics and supplies. By 2045, Kia’s CO2 emissions must be reduced by 97 percent compared to 2019. Kia is also taking measures to offset the remaining CO2 emissions. Around next year, the Koreans will come up with a system with which its partner companies and suppliers can also monitor their CO2 emissions. In addition, Kia is starting and supporting a series of projects to protect the environment, including The Ocean Cleanup, which aims to remove plastic from the oceans.
