Kia has a brand new compact crossover in the development rooms: the Sonet. The newcomer debuted a few months ago as a study model, but will be presented in production-ready form this summer.
Kia has launched a design sketch of a new compact crossover that will make its public debut this year. It concerns the Sonet, a compact cross-ver that was previewed at the Delhi Auto Expo in India in February this year. We do not get much wiser from the digital drawing, because the concept car already looked almost ready for production. In any case, the final Sonet will have the same headlights, the same grille and the same bumper. The wheels of the show car that preceded him also seem to be transferred one to one to the production version.
The just under four meters long Sonet is a Kia that is very unlikely to come to Europe. The car was mainly developed for markets such as India and that also explains why the Sonet Concept made its public debut there. Of course, it does not make Kia less proud of the crossover, which has to compete in India against cars such as the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta and Ford EcoSport. The Sonet is only the second Kia to be built in India. The first is the Seltos. It will not surprise you that the Indian branch of Kia says with this compact newcomer to target a young target group that is “tech-savvy, ambitious and always and everywhere connected”. So hip birds. As mentioned, the Sonet is very likely to miss European nose. Is that a loss or is the Stonic enough for us?
