Registration figures July 2023

The Kia Picanto overthrew the Tesla Model Y in July. Where the Model Y was still the most iconic new car in June, the small Kia can call itself the most popular new car in July.
In July, 28,687 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands. That was no less than 30.7 percent more than in the same month last year (21,941 units). This is evident from figures released by Bovag, RAI Association and RDC. The July figures bring the total number of new cars registered in the Netherlands in the first seven months of this year to 229,342 units. That number is 30.6 percent higher than in the same period last year, when the registration counter stood at 175,638.
As in previous months, the strong increase in the number of registrations is partly due to the fact that importers and dealers are clearing outstanding sales orders from 2022. But it’s not all roses and moonshine. Consumer confidence is low, inflation is high. The number of new orders is therefore declining slightly, according to Bovag, RAI Association and RDC. For the time being, the sector organizations still assume that new sales will reach 340,000 units at the end of this year. That number is 9 percent above the number of cars delivered last year (312,074 units).
Most popular car brands July 2023
With 3,163 new cars registered in July, Kia accounted for a market share of 11 percent. Kia managed to register the most new cars in the Netherlands of all makes. 1,103 of these were a Kia. The Picanto, in turn, accounted for 1,103 registrations. The small Kia was therefore the most popular new car in July. In June that was the Tesla Model Y. Volkswagen closely follows Kia with 3,022 units. Unlike Kia, Volkswagen does not manage to enter the top five models.
