Keep going

Kia is not wasting any time when it comes to the latest interpretation of the Opposites United design style. Following the example of the EV9 and the facelifted Picanto, two more models have now been given a new, fresh sauce, albeit in South Korea.
The models in question are the Carnival and the K5, which was presented in 2019 as the successor to the car that was also called K5 in Korea, but was called ‘Optima’ in Europe, among others. To start with that sedan: in this case Kia is still relatively calm, especially because the original K5 already has quite unusual lines. With the addition of an extra LED extension at the bottom of all light units, plus a layout according to the ‘Star Map’ principle, the references to the latest electric models from the EV series are still plentiful.

This applies even more to the Carnival. The MPV, which has had a sturdy nose and therefore some light SUV features since 2020, gets a completely new front and rear. We know the vertical headlights not only from the EV9, but also from the facelifted Picanto. At the rear we find a new light bar, now with vertical elements. It spans a new tailgate, in which the license plate is mounted one floor lower than before. Kia is also taking the opportunity to launch a new hybrid powertrain. This brings the number of engine options for the Carnival to three: petrol, diesel and hybrid.

We once also knew the Kia Carnival in Europe, but in 2008 the fun ended after two generations. Not surprising, because full-size MPVs were already having a hard time in our regions. In addition to Asia, the last two generations of the Carnival are also in showrooms in North America, where it was called ‘Sedona’ until 2020. Since the current fifth generation, the space giant has been called Carnival worldwide.
