Far from our bed show?
Kia is going to take the plunge and enter the hard-fought pick-up market. It will do that with this Kia Tasman, which was captured in our part of the world, but may still pass us by.
Here in the Netherlands, pick-ups mainly play a role on the margins, but in North and South America and Australia, among other places, it is a completely different story. Kia also understands that there is a lot of money to be made from this. It has a fairly strong foothold, especially in North America, and is also doing well in Australia, so the South Koreans are probably targeting those markets with the Tasman. The name also suggests that Kia is targeting Australia in particular. has grain.
But what kind of pickup will the Tasman be? Well, despite the camouflage, it is clear that Kia is giving it quite a few sharp lines, there are vertically oriented lamps on the outer corners of the front, it will have a large grille and will in any case come to the market with a double cabin. The Tasman probably shares its basis with the Kia Mohave, just five meters long body-on-frame SUV that is available with both rear and four-wheel drive. This probably also applies to the Tasman, but the question remains whether it will also adopt the 3.0 V6 diesel from the Mohave. The Tasman will also reportedly get petrol power. We expect the unveiling later this year.
