In 2024, 132 million unsafe and risky websites for KPN customers were blocked and, thanks to smart filters, almost one and a half million viruses and malware were intercepted. Read more here how you can protect you as a KPN customer against cyber criminals, such as free extra safety licencies for multiple devices in the house.
Research by F-Secure and KPN on cyber safety in 2024 shows that more than 70 percent of Dutch consumers are concerned about online safety. Those worries only increase, because more than 80 percent believe that security risks will only increase in the coming time. For example, more than 15 million unsafe websites were blocked this year. There are also many phishing messages in Omloop, as Pcactive.nl already reported yesterday about a warning about an SMS from Bitvavo. To meet the increasing demand for online safety, KPN will spread 7 million free safety licencies among customers in the coming period. From today, for 700,000 customers who did not yet have a safety product, several F-Secure licenses are available for free. This allows them to add a safety filter on multiple devices themselves. In addition, KPN will soon be expanding the number of free licenses for all existing customers to five devices.
KPN Safe
To be able to use the internet safely, KPN has a free malware filter safe browsing, which means that thousands of suspicious websites are stopped every day. This protection can activate customers themselves, just like the free virus scanners on a computer or mobile device. Customers who want to organize their network security at home can do so with ESET at home. In addition, customers can also use the safe password manager 1Password or storage service Google One. The KPN network is known for its high safety requirements and is constantly monitored for attacks and weak spots. Only in this way does KPN ensure that not only customers but the whole of the Netherlands can have vital services.
No More Leaks
KPN makes every effort to protect customers when their data is stolen or leaked. This is done in collaboration with the National Police via the ‘No More Leaks’ project to prevent abuse of stolen or leaked login details on the internet. KPN asks users to change their data if their data has been considered stolen or leaked by the police. In this way, further identity fraud is prevented.
Platform digital resilience
In addition to all safety solutions, KPN also sees an important task for itself to ensure that the Dutch can feel safe again online. In order to increase the digital resilience of consumers, KPN and ING started the Digital Resilience Knowledge Platform in close collaboration with the police and the government. A course designed to improve the knowledge and skills in the field of digital safety. Since its foundation, more than 29 thousand people have registered to improve their digital resilience with a course on online scams, recognizing AI and bank fraud.
Safety courses in SMEs
No less than 95% of cyber incidents are caused by human errors, such as clicking on phishing left, the use of weak passwords and not updating software. Because 1 in 3 SME entrepreneurs is confronted with cyber crime annually, KPN has developed an online cyber security test and free cyber security training courses in which employees of SMEs will learn to recognize threats and better protect their digital working environment.
