The French start-up KG Auto proves that electric cars do not always have to offer an enormous range or a spine-injuring acceleration to be fun. Under the brand name Kilow, it presents the La Bagnole, a kind of Renault Twizy with mountain boots.
Meet the La Bagnole, a simple-looking electric off-roader that weighs only 283 kilos without a battery pack. The La Bagnole is therefore less car than you might expect based on its appearance. The La Bagnole is only 2.81 meters long, 1.5 meters wide and 1.46 high. Like the Renault Twizy, for example, the La Bagnole from Kilow has a variant with a top speed of 45 km/h and one that ‘continues’ to a speed of 80 km/h.
The La Bagnole is a two-seater with an open loading box, in which you can also place a plastic box, if desired. The payload is about 150 kilos. Two together 21 hp electric motors that drive the rear wheels help the La Bagnole to a speed of 40 km/h in 4 seconds. Four disc brakes? From the party. By the way, they sit behind steel wheels that have a diameter of 18 inches and are only 13 centimeters wide. The LiFePo4 48 battery helps the La Bagnole to achieve an electric range of 70 to 140 kilometers depending on the version and composition chosen. The car shown does not have doors, but they are available as an option.
KG Auto says it is taking a completely different direction with the La Bagnole than other manufacturers. The company says it wonders whether ‘the world’ and ‘we’ are really waiting for models that offer ‘more’. That is why the La Bagnole is quite minimalistic. KG Auto jokes that less speed, less range, less weight and less comfort is better. According to the company, it results in less energy and material consumption. Most of the material from which the La Bagnole is made comes from France or from countries nearby. The aim is to get all the materials needed for the La Bagnole from France.
The first copies of the La Bagnole should come off the production line in the first quarter of 2023. After making a deposit of €990, the €9.900 La Bagnole can already be ordered.
