Lada has airbags again

Good news for the Russian consumer who would like to purchase a Lada. The brand was first forced to supply the Granta without airbags. From now on, the Granta is again available with floppy bags.

Light-hearted Lada news. In mid-June, Lada’s parent company AvtoVaz reported that it had restarted the Granta production line. For the time being, the Granta was only produced in Classic trim, which from now on had to do without ABS, airbags, belt tensioners and an immobilizer. Slowly but surely, Lada is getting things back in order and now AvtoVaz proudly reports that the Granta family is again equipped with airbags. From now on, every model year 2023 Granta will have two front airbags.

Lada previously managed to expand the option list of the only available Granta, the Classic, with air conditioning. In addition, Lada came with a new Club and Quest versions with a heated windscreen, parking beepers and heated seats as standard.

The Granta was the first model that Lada was able to produce again in June after it was forced to stop its entire production. Renault Group previously put an end to its Russian activities and transferred its share in AvtoVaz to NAMI, the Russian Central Research and Development Institute for cars and powertrains. Among other things, AvtoVaz had to hunt for new (non-Western) suppliers of numerous components. As mentioned, the Granta was the first Lada car to be built again. Not long after that, production of the Niva Legend, in other words the primal Niva, started again. The Niva Travel is also being built again, but AvtoVaz is still not producing Lada’s success number Vesta, the Largus and X-Ray. Those models are all on a platform of Renault-Nissan and so Lada has a bigger job to bring back these models.
