The Lancia Aurelia GT mainly had to have its chic appearance, but the British company Thornley Kelham does not want that. That put the saw in the beautiful Italian and gave it a well-ticked well-known Italian engine.
The British are crazy about ‘coachbuilding’ and restomods. This is again apparent from this ‘European CSL’ version of the Thornley Kelham Outlaw Aurelia, an extra sporty restomod based on the Lancia Aurelia. Originally, the Aurelia GT dating from the 1950s had to do with a modest V6 from Lancia itself, which had a 2.5-liter capacity at its largest. In that form, the block was good for 118 hp. This restomod is, as you might expect, well above that.
In the nose of the Outlaw is the well-known 3.2 ‘Busso’ V6, which has been overhauled by the engineers at Thornley Kelham. The block now stamps 304 hp power and sends it to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Keep in mind that the Aurelia has also become lighter than originally. The body is now largely made of aluminum and thus the special appearance weighs only 1,100 kilos. Incidentally, in addition to weight, you also lose some headroom: TK lowered the roof for a sportier appearance. The chrome bumpers of the Aurelia also disappeared. This, in combination with the ‘racing wheels’ typical of that time, ensures that the Outlaw Aurelia looks like a street racer of its time.
TK has also worked on what happens under the carriage. It has disc brakes, a modified chassis, a differential lock and you can even get power steering for an additional fee. Thornley Kelham has worked subtly in the interior. Leather-upholstered seats in tasteful colors have been given a modern touch with belts that would not look out of place in a modern race car, but otherwise it looks quite classic. TK is going to transform just three Aurelias into Outlaw European CSL. It is not known what you have to pay to get one.
