There is no such thing as goodbye
Land Rover Classic will once again convert a number of Defenders from the previous model into a series of exclusive models. With the ‘Works V8 Trophy II’, Land Rover’s classics division pays tribute to all the off-road expeditions the brand has participated in over the decades. Just like last time, the edition will be limited to 25 copies.
The Trophy II camouflage pattern does not consist of a number of random spots. The pattern shows the 23 locations of off-road expeditions, both the places where historic off-road competitions like the Camel Trophy were held and those of more recent expeditions. In addition, the pattern features the silhouettes of some classic Land Rovers and features the classic Land Rover logo on the front doors. In contrast to the white of the body, the hood and roof are painted in matt black. Over almost the entire surface of the roof is a luggage rack with an external roll cage. An LED light bar above the windscreen should provide extra visibility in the dark.
That light bar, in addition to the color scheme, is an important difference with the previous Works V8 Trophy. The Trophy II also sits on black 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, which give it a more modern look than the steel wheels of the first Works V8 Trophy. For the interior, Land Rover chose the same color scheme as the exterior. The white upholstery on the Recaro sports seats and the rear seat just doesn’t seem very resistant to muddy clothing. Another distinctive element in the interior is the analog clock from the watch brand Elliot Brown. If you order a Works V8 Trophy II, you will also receive a matching watch as a gift.
Compared to the previous Works V8 Trophy, the technology does not change. Under the hood is a 5.0 V8 that delivers 405 hp and 515 Nm of torque. That eight-cylinder is linked to a modern eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF. To control all that power, the Defender gets a stronger front and rear differential, an improved braking system and a stronger suspension.
Also as a pick-up
Land Rover Classic will only build 25 units of the Defender Works V8 Trophy II. The limited edition is based on the Defender 90 and 110 from model year 2012 to 2016. However, the Works Trophy II can also be ordered as a 110 Double Cab Pick-Up, which was not yet possible with the previous Trophy. That pick-up will be the rarest version, because Land Rover Classic only builds five copies. The other twenty copies will be divided equally between the 90 and 110. The price is on request, but for the previous V8 Works Trophy you had to pay at least €220,000 converted.
