Taycan on high legs
Porsche comes with a third SUV, a model above the Cayenne. That has been known for a while, but today we also have an image to accompany the story.
A larger SUV from Porsche actually makes sense. The already quite hefty Cayenne can not be towed worldwide and cars such as the Lamborghini Urus, BMW XM and Ferrari Purosangue prove that it cannot be fast, expensive and thick enough in this area. As early as the summer of 2022, we discovered that such a larger and more expensive model is actually coming.
Unlike the aforementioned competitors, the as-yet unnamed SUV will be fully electric. Porsche has serious ambitions in this area and wants 80 percent of new models to be electric by 2030. The new SUV will therefore be placed next to two other electric SUVs: an electric Macan (2024) and an electric Cayenne (after 2025). The new model shares its SSP Sport platform with that Cayenne. Not the Macan, which uses the PPE base developed with Audi.
There was no image of the new, large electric Porsche yet, but we found something in the video material of the annual press conference. It is a photo of a screen on which the car is under a cloth, so don’t expect too much from it. Still, the record makes a few things clear. For example, we see flattened headlights in the style of the Taycan, although they seem a bit sharper and more straight-lined here. The roofline is also reminiscent of that of the Taycan and that of the Cayenne Coupé, which means that it starts to drop already at the B-pillar. The roof itself shows the ‘double bubble’ known from the Taycan, although that characteristic will be canceled if any available panoramic roof is fitted.
Porsche promises that the new top SUV will set new standards in the field of driving assistance systems and will offer “an entirely new interior experience”. An exact introduction year for the new Porsche has not yet been mentioned, although it is clear that the car must contribute to the 2030 goal.
