Lawsuit alleging deception regarding Tesla driver assistance in the US may continue

A group of angry customers wants to sue Tesla because CEO Elon Musk allegedly misled them about the possibilities for automated driving of the brand’s electric cars. A court in San Francisco ruled that the case could proceed.

Tesla reportedly said in 2016 that all future models would have the “hardware necessary for full self-driving capabilities.” The automaker also said these cars would be able to drive independently from Los Angeles to New York before the end of 2017. Ultimately this was not successful.

A judge found that there was sufficient evidence that Tesla had misled customers. Therefore, a class action lawsuit alleging fraud and negligence may proceed, she ruled.

Tesla has been in the news more often in negative news lately due to the Autopilot driver assistance system. Hundreds of accidents have occurred in the United States involving Teslas driven using that system. Recently, the Reuters news agency reported, based on insiders, that prosecutors are investigating whether Tesla misled investors about the possibilities of self-driving functions.
