The new measures against the corona virus seem to keep people out of the cities. There are clearly fewer paid parking actions there this month.
Since the cabinet tightened up the corona measures at the beginning of this month, the Dutch have stayed at home more. This is the conclusion of the parking payment service Parkmobile, which saw the number of parking actions decrease. Especially at weekends, the Dutch went out less often, especially to cities.
On average, there were 4.5 percent fewer transactions at Parkmobile, which has 2 million active users. During the week there was a drop of 3.8 percent, at the weekend the drop rose to 7 percent. Parkmobile thinks that the number of parking transactions during the week will also fall further due to the stricter work-from-home advice last Friday. In the five major cities, the decrease in the number of parking transactions was 5.6 percent. The decrease was greatest in The Hague (minus 6.5 percent) and the lowest in Eindhoven. There was only 1.4 percent less paid parking.
Earlier this week it was already clear on the road that it is getting quieter again. In September and October it was clearly busier than last year in those months, but in November the crowds have dropped again for the time being. Monday morning there was 93 kilometers of traffic jam, compared to 250 kilometers on the Monday of the week before.
