Less powerful plug-in hybrid for Citroën C5 Aircross

The Citroën C5 Aircross gets a second plug-in hybrid version. With 180 hp, the new plug-in hybrid is less powerful than the already existing 225 hp variant. The latter stays, and even gets a bigger battery. The plug-in hybrid version of the Citroën C5 X now also has a longer range.

The new Citroën C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid 180 is in fact a combination of already known parts. The main component is of course the Citroën C5 Aircross, Citroën’s largest SUV. This model received a facelift earlier this year and therefore looks nice and fresh again. The second part is the plug-in hybrid powertrain with 180 hp, which is used in, among other things, the Peugeot 308 is delivered. As with the earlier, more powerful version, there is a 1.6-litre PureTech petrol engine on board, but with 150 instead of 180 hp. Together with a still 81 kW/110 hp electric motor, this produces a total power of 180 hp. This version replaces the regular petrol version with 180 hp, which was no longer on the price list in the Netherlands. An EAT8 automatic transmission is of course standard.

The Citroën C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid 180 has a battery of 12.4 kWh and an official electric range of 58 km. Neat figures, but the version with 225 hp remains one step ahead of him. That will get a larger battery pack of 14.2 kWh, so that electric driving can now be done up to 64 km.

Then there is also news about the Citroën C5 X, the crossover that has little to do with the Aircross except brand and type name. This flat five-door keeps its Plug-in Hybrid 225 powertrain, but comes further on a load of current due to some software updates. As with the Aircross, according to Citroën, it saves about 15 percent, so that up to 63 km can now be driven completely electrically.

According to the configurator, the new Citroën C5 Aircross Plug-In Hybrid 180 will cost at least €42,740. For that amount, the car is ready as Feel, the basic equipment level for the plug-in versions. The 225 hp variant costs €44,240 in this form. For comparable amounts – €42,940 and €44,440 respectively – the plug-ins are available as Business Plus. Top version Shine does not seem to be there for the time being with the 180 hp powertrain. With 225 hp, this thick version costs €46,840.
