Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has won the Grand Prix of Turkey, securing his seventh world title in Formula 1. Max Verstappen had a disappointing race.
Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton in Turkey has managed to score enough points for his seventh world title in Formula 1. The 35-year-old driver equals Michael Schumacher. Until now, he was considered the most successful F1 driver ever. Hamilton and Schumacher are at a lonely height with their seven titles. Juan Manuel Fangio is the third most successful driver ever with five titles, followed by Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel with four titles each. In number of wins, Hamilton already overtook Schumacher a few weeks ago and is the most successful F1 driver ever according to statistics.
The Grand Prix of Turkey seemed to offer a good chance for a victory for Max Verstappen in advance. The Dutchman started the race from P2, but immediately dropped considerably due to a bad start. Although the win still seemed possible along the way, a slip and spin during an attempt to catch up on Sergio Perez caused another setback. Moments later it went wrong again and at the bottom of the line, Verstappen was unable to get further than sixth place. In the end, it was Perez and Sebastian Vettel (who overtook teammate Charles Leclerc in the final corners) who joined Hamilton on the podium.
