Lexus is the largest luxury brand in the US in third quarter

There is a real battle going on in the US for the title of the most popular premium car maker. Lexus takes the lead in the third quarter, but the battle is not over yet.

In 2020 BMW was allowed to call itself the largest ‘luxury car brand’ in the US in the US, followed at a minimum distance by Lexus and Mercedes-Benz. Carscoops reports that Lexus managed to outperform its major rival in the third quarter. It sold 81,093 cars, against 75,619 for the Germans. Mercedes follows at an appropriate distance with 55,130 units and Audi is just visible on the horizon with 44,019 units.

However, if we look at this year’s sales so far, BMW is still in the lead. The brand sold 4,808 more cars than Lexus and a whopping 28,000 more than Mercedes.

This year’s result is not only related to the wishes of customers, but also to the way in which the car manufacturers deal with the chip shortage. According to Bloomberg, Lexus has managed its distribution process very well, allowing it to get the most out of the current situation. For Mercedes in particular, the shortage would cause more problems. Of course, it is mainly the SUVs in the US that are responsible for the numbers: more than half of Lexus sales are accounted for by the NX and RX.

In the United States there is more exciting in the car field this year. For example, for the first time in years, it is not obvious that the Ford F-150 can call itself the most popular pick-up truck. However, people are also fighting each other on the more recognizable battlefield of luxury brands for Europeans.
