Lexus is stepping off the beaten track at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022. The Japanese luxury brand sent the NX and LX to a training camp and shows the result on the show floor. In addition, the hydrogen buggy ROV Concept is making its public debut.
If you think of intense off-road work, you probably do not immediately make the link with Lexus. You would not expect the ROV Concept in particular from a somewhat aging luxury brand. However, the Japanese go one step further. The NX PHEV Offroad Concept is parked next to the ROV. Like the buggy, the NX has a matte bronze finish that goes by the name ‘Iron Oxide’. The grille, door handles and roof rails are painted matte black. The rugged NX is based on the NX 450h+, Lexus’ first plug-in hybrid. The Offroad Concept stands taller than the original and rolls on large all-terrain tires. To top it off, Lexus mounted a luggage rack on the roof.
Boss above boss
For the second off-road tiger, Lexus teamed up with Jaos, a company that supplies parts for off-road vehicles. Compared to the standard LX 600, there is a completely different kind of car. The LX 600 Offroad rolls on 20-inch bronze wheels with all-terrain tires and features CFRP fender flares. That material, spelled out in full as ‘Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic’, is also used for the skid plates under the front and rear bumpers. Furthermore, there are large mud flaps behind the wheels of the terrain executioner and the rear bumper is also special. One exhaust sticks out from underneath. Lexus has previously built an extreme version of the LX: the J201 Concept.
The adjustments for the LX can now be ordered, but Lexus does not mention the price. The NX will presumably stick to a finger exercise.
