Lexus LM

When you think of Lexus, you probably think of luxury sedans and SUVs and not a wattled hybrid MPV with two sliding doors. Yet Lexus has such a model in its range. Even for years. Now there’s a completely new one: this is the new Lexus LM.

In 2019, Lexus presented the first generation LM at Auto Shanghai and four years later we will be digitally introduced to the completely new LM at the same car fair. The Lexus LM – of which the letters in its model name again stand for Luxury Mover – is a real space giant. It is 5.13 meters long and exceeds the first LM in length by 8.5 centimeters. The battleship is 1.89 meters wide, 1.96 meters high and has a wheelbase of no less than 3 meters. The Lexus LM is not completely electric. The Lexus LM does get two hybrid powertrains, each with a four-cylinder for the time being.

The appearance of the new Lexus LM is striking, but that is no surprise in the world of large MPVs from Toyota Motor Corporation these days. The LM has a remarkably short and high nose with a heavy grille and vertical cooling openings. At the rear we see a huge stripe in which the rear lights are housed. Directly above it is a second stripe that acts as a third brake light.

The Lexus LM will be available as an extra luxurious four-seater and as a six- and seven-seater. According to Lexus, passengers sit in seats that are extremely comfortable and devotes a lot of space in an accompanying letter to descriptions of thick cushions and shock-absorbing material. Lexus gives the LM adaptive variable dampers and a Rear Comfort driving mode in which the passengers in the back in particular must have it more spacious than spacious. That Lexus wants to make the occupants as blissful as possible is also apparent from the attention the brand has paid to sound insulation. We read about reducing driving and wind noise as much as possible, and according to Lexus, things like the engine mounts have been developed in such a way that noise and vibration from the powertrain are hardly noticeable in the interior. According to Lexus, the new model is up to 50 percent stiffer than the car it replaces.

The four-seater version has a 48-inch display for the rear row of seats in the rear. Above it is a sliding glass panel that separates the rear passengers from the front occupants. More indulgence in the four-seater version: Lexus calls the presence of a mini fridge, countless storage options a deluge of beautiful materials and we see seats that wouldn’t look out of place in a private jet.. Mood lighting? From the party. Consisting of 14 themes and 50 colors. Lexus says it wants to give the occupants the feeling of being in a hotel suite. Also new is Rear Climate Concierge, a system that – you guessed it – takes the temperature control in the back especially seriously. The seat version has heated armrests, a heated footstool and a set of smart sensors that precisely detect the parts of the occupants and the interior where the temperature deviates and then do something about it.

The previous Lexus LM was a far-Lexus-too Toyota Alphard and it looks like the new LM shares its base with the yet-to-be-revealed new generation of that MPV from Toyota. The previous Lexus LM was mainly a Chinese party, but something special is going on with the new Lexus LM. It is marketed in more than 60 countries, including countries in Europe. We are still awaiting a response from the Dutch importer as to whether the Netherlands is one of them.
