Lexus comes with a fully electric SUV that listens to the name RZ. It will be the brand’s first car that has been developed primarily as an electric model. It is not yet known when the RZ will be on the market.
With its wide range of hybrid models, Lexus has been familiar with the concept of electrification for many years. As far as fully electric cars are concerned, things are going less well. Lexus’ only EV is the UX 300e, an all-electric version of the UX that also comes with a hybrid powertrain and even a conventional petrol engine here. However, Lexus also gets cars that have been developed purely as an EV. The first will be the RZ, an SUV of which the brand is already releasing the first images.
Lexus LF-Z Electrified Concept (2021)
The Lexus RZ will be on a variant of the E-GMP platform that the brand new Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra also use. The RZ will clearly be the production version of the LF-Z Electrified Concept presented in March this year, a study model that closely resembles the silhouette, shoulder line and broadly the lighting on both the front and rear of the RZ. The Lexus RZ will be an electric SUV with a slightly sloping roofline and a fairly flat rear window. Like its conceptual harbinger, the RZ has black areas under the headlights. The viewers themselves are less flat than those of the concept car. Due to the lack of the need for a large conventional grille, Lexus gives the RZ a stylistically shaped and fairly closed muzzle whose styling somewhat resembles what we saw on the front of the LF-Z Electrified Concept. The rear lights consist of a horizontal LED bar that bends slightly upwards at the ends. Above the LED bar is a black plastic strip in which the brand name is proudly written.
Lexus RZ
The LF-Z Electrified Concept was 4.8 meters long and had a wheelbase of 2.95 meters. If those numbers give an accurate indication of the dimensions of the final RZ, then you can count on an SUV that is about 10 centimeters longer than the Toyota bZ4x. The wheelbase of the RZ also exceeds that of its Toyota farmer by the same number of centimeters. The final RZ would then be about 9 centimeters shorter than the RX, although the RZ does have a nice 15 centimeters more between the front and rear axle. Or LF-Z Electrified Concept had a powertrain of about 550 hp and had to be able to travel about 600 kilometers on a charge of current. Don’t be surprised if a final top version of the RZ starts to approach that performance.
