Lexus sells two millionth electrified car

With a handful of exceptions, Lexus only sells models with an electrified powertrain in Europe. Outside Europe, the brand also places a great deal of focus on cars with electrified power sources. The brand has now sold its two millionth car with electro-assisted assistance.

At the end of April, Lexus sold its two millionth electrified car, although the brand only announced it today. Lexus’ hybrid adventure started in 2005 with the RX 400h and now – if we forget the LC 500 Convertible – a hybrid version of every model the brand sells in Europe is available. In Europe, even 96 percent of the brand’s models sold today are equipped with an electrified powertrain.

Lexus has 9 electrified models worldwide. Mind you, the brand does not only include the hybrid models, but also the fully electric version of the UX. By 2020, 33 percent of all cars sold worldwide by Lexus were electrified. The RX was not only the first Lexus hybrid, it is also the Lexus with most hybrid versions sold. Lexus sold 518,000 electrified RXs between 2005 and 2021.

In the form of the UX 300e, Lexus has its first EV on the menu and that will certainly not remain the last electric Lexus. Until 2025, Lexus will present twenty new or updated models, more than ten of which are electrified. These are not only hybrid newcomers, but also plug-in hybrid and all-electric debutants. This year, Lexus will release its first plug-in hybrid, likely a plug-in hybrid version of the yet to be revealed new NX. In addition, a completely new electric model is planned for 2022. With the LF-Z Electrified Concept, Lexus already gave a precursor to its new electric model.
