Double hefty

Anyone who thought that Lexus would turn off the news tap after the presentation of the compact crossover LBX is wrong. Lexus will pull the curtain tomorrow on not one, but two new models. Both are considerably larger than the small LBX.
The Lexus LBX still has to get used to daylight or its creators are already looking ahead to two other newcomers: the new GX and the even newer TX. Like the LBX, they are high on the legs, but we are talking about much larger models here. Where crossover LBX is the smallest Lexus ever, the GX and TX operate at the opposite end of the size spectrum. However, they do not come to the Netherlands.
The Lexus GX is the Lexus equivalent of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, the model that continues its automotive existence in the Netherlands without a Prado addition. The Land Cruiser Prado is a step below the full size Land Cruiser – of which there is also a Lexus alternative – on the status ladder. Just like the current Land Cruiser Prado (J150) with which the car shares its base, the Lexus GX has been running since 2009 and is therefore quite old. It is also striking that the Lexus version of the new SUV comes earlier than the original from Toyota. Toyota has not yet announced anything about the new Land Cruiser Prado.
The second new large SUV from Lexus is the TX. The TX will be a less rugged rascal than the GX and seems to be a more practical model. The TX may be placed between the RX and the new GX and probably shares its basis with the Toyota Grand Highlander. In any case, the Lexus alternative seems to be getting its own body and is therefore not ‘just’ a Toyota-with-Lexus badges. Why did we label the TX as ‘even newer’ than the GX earlier in this article? Model line GX already exists, but the TX has no direct predecessor.
On June 8, the Lexus TX and GX will be unveiled simultaneously. So just a little more patience.
