LG helps with iPhone 14 production: phones in time for Christmas, right?

LG will help Apple with iPhone 14 production. What does that mean for iPhone delivery times so close to the holidays? iPhoned explains it.

Long delivery time iPhone 14 Pro (Max)

Due to corona infections in Zhengzhou, China, a metropolis with more than 10 million inhabitants, the delivery time of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) is increasing rapidly. The main iPhone factory is in this huge city, where the Chinese government has announced another lockdown.

Due to the lockdown, there is (much) less production in the iPhone factory. According to Apple, this has consequences for the delivery time of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. And that doesn’t bode well with the holidays just around the corner: there’s more demand around this time of year, but iPhone 14 production is actually much lower.

LG takes over iPhone 14 production

LG has now announced it will help Apple supply OLED screens for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The company thus joins Samsung, which until now was the only company to supply the screens to Apple. It is still unclear how the two companies will divide the screen delivery in the iPhone 14 production.

It is clear that the delivery time will probably not increase much further due to the increased production. The delivery time of an iPhone 14 Pro (Max) is now at least about three weeks. So you might still have the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) in time for the holidays.

Lower iPhone 14 Pro (Max) prices?

It is of course beneficial for Apple that LG is helping with iPhone 14 production. Firstly, there is now less risk of production shutdown, which remains a possible scenario due to the corona infections in Zhengzhou, China. LG can then take over a (larger) part of the production, accelerating production.

It also strengthens the position of Apple, which can now negotiate with Samsung and LG about the lowest production price. This can lead to lower manufacturing costs for an iPhone, leading (hopefully) to a lower price of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max). Whether this will actually be the case remains to be seen.
