Linden flower tea has been used as a remedy for different complaints since the 18th century. Here you will learn more about the effect and preparation of the tea.

Linden flowers are the flowers of the linden tree. They not only offer a nice sight, but are also considered a traditional means of various symptoms of illness in folk medicine. For this purpose, the flowers are boiled as tea.

The summer lime blooms between June and August. During this time you can collect the flowers that you need to prepare linden flower tea yourself.

Linden flowers contain a combination of essential oils, tannins, flavonoids and mucus. This composition is the reason for its healing effect and diverse application. The following properties have linden flower tea:

  • Right, sweaty and anti -inflammatory for colds, fever and cough
  • Strengthens the immune system and prevents flu -like infections
  • Pain-relieving for gastrointestinal, abdominal and headaches
  • Soothing and relaxing with sleep disorders, inner restlessness and nervousness
  • slightly diuretic with bladder infection or kidney disease

Dry linden flowers

If you want to collect the fresh linden flowers yourself, you can look out in parks and gardens from June. You can also make linden blossom tea from fresh flowers – but to increase the effect, it is advisable to dry the flowers beforehand.

On warm days you can spread them on a cloth and let them dry in the warm air outside. Make sure that the sun does not shine directly on the flowers, since the sunlight can destroy the valuable active ingredients. On colder days you can dry the linden flowers using a dehydrated machine or at 30 to 40 degrees Celsius in the oven. However, both methods consume a lot of energy and are therefore not recommended. Alternatively, you can also buy linden flower tea from dried flowers in organic stores or health food stores.

Linden flower tea: the preparation

You need about a teaspoon of dried or two teaspoons of fresh flowers per 250 milliliters of linden flow tea. Pour boiling water over it and let the infusion pull for ten minutes. Then pour the tea through a sieve to remove the plant parts. Fresh lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey round off the tea and also help with colds and flu infections.

On warm summer days you can also enjoy the linden flower tea cold, it looks very refreshing. Put the same amount of fresh or dried linden flowers in a container and pour them over with cold water. Let the mixture pull in the fridge for six to eight hours.

Tip: In order to benefit from the advantages of the linden flowers, you should consume two to four cups of linden flower tea every day. Drink the tea with fever or colds as hot as possible to increase the sweaty effect.
