Sooner or later we will have to accept it and our trusted fossil fuel car will make way for the electric car. Fortunately, they are becoming more and more affordable as used cars. With €12,500 in our pocket, our search for the plug-in car begins.
saint
The name Zoe comes from the Greek word ‘zoe’ and means saint. Despite that significance, Renault will probably not want to advertise this successful model as a holy cash cow, because this Zoe does not need fossil fuel. This beautiful, blue Intense looks appetizing and fits nicely in the stuff. With 89 hp it is certainly not a tear iron. Still, even after seven o’clock in the evening on the country’s highways you can easily keep up, because the top is only reached at 135 km/h. With the fairly modest 22 kWh battery pack, depending on the circumstances, you will get about 100 to 120 kilometers away. This car is offered for €7,499, but there are two caveats. The seller takes into account the government subsidy of €2,000 that is already included in the price and Renault charges €69 per month for the battery rental at 10,000 km per year.

Odd man out
During our search we came across this Focus. Not a special model at all, until you spot that hip Electric badge on the tailgate. Then he is suddenly quite unique, because you do not exactly find this type on our roads every day. It’s a bit of an odd one out, only coming onto the European scene after being widely available in the United States for a long time. It was not a resounding success in the Netherlands, probably because it cost €20,000 more new than the petrol version. This beautiful 2014 example has only 13,507 kilometers on the clock and is finished in Titanium trim, so the next owner will get a number of nice options, such as heated seats, heated windshields and keyless entry & start. However, with a range of about 100 kilometers you have to plug in very frequently …

green leaf
With the Leaf, Nissan has managed to make electric driving relatively accessible to the masses. This has translated into excellent sales figures for this uniquely designed model. In any case, you will not drive anonymously with this black copy. From behind the wheel, the Nissan looks relatively normal and simple, with gray accents, piano paint and a digital dashboard. A bright blue inlay has been applied in the center console of the car to add a bit of cheerfulness. This Leaf has only driven 64,343 kilometers in seven years and, thanks to the 24 kWh battery pack, has a theoretical range of almost 200 kilometers. In practice, only take into account slightly more than half, depending on driving style and weather conditions.
