Lordstown Endurance now inside too

The Lordstown Endurance is an electric pick-up that we saw from the outside before. Now it’s time for the inside, where Lordstown tries to combine a lot of high-tech with a bit of fun.

The interior of the Endurance is revealed on Twitter, where Lordstown reveals the interior without much comment. The interior is, however, graced by a coffee cup and a driver with a helmet, because such a pick-up is obviously aimed at tough men with tough professions. The interior itself looks sleek and tidy.

The dashboard has a strong horizontal orientation. At the very bottom we find a physical climate control with large, sturdy buttons, making the first important difference with Tesla’s interior philosophy a fact. The ventilation grilles are in their own black ‘layer’. Above that follows a section that is apparently covered with a cozy fabric. It houses the screen combination, which consists of three screens behind one glass plate. The four-spoke steering wheel appears to be equipped with touch-sensitive ‘buttons’.

Between the seats is a sturdy center console with an armrest, storage compartments, cup holders and a rotary knob that can no doubt be used to choose the correct direction of travel.

Cybertruck and F-150

Lordstown seems to be doing everything in its power to make the Endurance the very first electric pickup. For that, the American start-up has to press ahead, because Tesla’s Cybertruck is on its way. The electric Ford F-150 has also been announced. The fact that Lordstown came up with sketches on the day the Tesla was unveiled, and then showed the final result during the premiere of the (conventional) F-150, is of course no coincidence.

The Lordstown is a fully electric ‘truck’ that owes its four-wheel drive to the fact that each wheel has its own motor. Lordstown promises over 600 horsepower, a driving range of over 250 miles (402 km) and a towing weight of about 3,400 kg. The Endurance seats five and is set to cost $ 52,500 in the US. Conventional pick-up trucks have a lower starting price there, but Lordstown is deliberately aiming for the more luxurious ones. In addition, the company emphasizes that the Endurance is cheaper in the longer term than its competitors, thanks to savings in maintenance and fuel costs.

Serious

Lordstown is certainly not the first electric vehicle start-up, but it does seem exceptionally serious. For example, the GM plant in Lordstown, Ohio, extends over 6.2 million square feet, about 576,000 square meters. In comparison, Tesla’s gigafactory in Fremont, California, measures 5.5 million sq ft. Also the fact that US Vice President Mike Pence is unveiling the Endurance thought worthwhile to travel to Ohio for a speech is thought provoking. Lordstown states that there are already 20,000 reservations for the Endurance.
