Lotus celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2023 with the launch of a brand new second electric model. After electric SUV Eletre, it is time for an electric sedan-like and it is the Type 133 EV that we can already show you very well in these photos.

Lotus is no longer the brand it used to be. The Emira is still the only Lotus car that you can get with a combustion engine, which means that the future of Lotus only includes fully electric cars. These will not all be sporty low coupés or roadsters. The fact that the current Lotus that operates under the flag of the Chinese giant Geely in 2023 is a completely different brand than before, was already proven by the introduction of the Eletre. That was not a feather-light throw-and-throw Briton, but a thick 5-meter long and 2-ton electric SUV. If you can’t digest that, don’t read any further. The next newcomer from Lotus will be an electric sedan-like.

Fits perfectly on the back of an Iveco Daily.

Near the Arctic Circle in the far north of Sweden is a gigantic frozen lake where our spy photographer Lotus bumped into the next newcomer. The wrapped model may not have been able to withstand temperatures well below freezing. The Lotus prototype threw in the towel and was taken away on an Iveco Daily. A bad day for Lotus.

But, what kind of colossus are we actually dealing with? We see a wattled electric liftback with a design that builds on that of the Lotus Eletre. Like the Lotus Eletre, this electric but much lower newcomer has two-tiered front lighting with the upper L-shaped units housing the LED daytime running lights. The actual headlights are one floor below. The electric liftback has cameras mounted on sticks that act as side mirrors and taillights that probably run the entire width of the buttocks. The C-pillar seems to be designed in the same way as the Eletre. We aim for this new electric Lotus, just like the Eletre, to be available with 612 hp and 918 hp powertrains. The Eletre has a 112 kWh battery pack and can travel up to 600 kilometers. This lower model was undoubtedly quite over that.

The sticker work of course leaves no doubt that this is a Lotus, but what it will be called is still a mystery. Like the other model names used by Lotus, the name of this new electric model from the brand will most likely start with an E. It may be called Envya. Lotus previously referred to the model with the designation ‘Type 133’. The Eletre was internally referred to as ‘Type 132′. The new electric five-door will be Lotus’ first low car with more than two doors since the Lotus Omega. In 2010, Lotus showed the Eterne, a preview of a Porsche Panamera-like of the brand that never went into production.

Lotus will later come with a second electric SUV-like and will also come with an electric supercar, the Type 135. Incidentally, Lotus already had an EV before the Eletre: the Evija.
