Facelift with principles
With the relatively heavy Emira and the very heavy Eletre, it seems that Lotus is definitely taking a different path and leaving its core values behind. Not so long ago that was different, as with the Lotus Elise S2 and S3.
Shortly before the introduction of the Emira, Lotus said goodbye to the Elise and its heavier brother, the Exige. The Elise in question is the Series 3, or S3, the third and final edition of this compact and lightweight fun model. The first Elise appeared in 1996 and in turn marked the beginning of a new Lotus era, albeit an era in which low weight, simplicity and affordability still played a role. The S1 was replaced in 2001 by the Series 2. It did share its chassis with the original, but was given its own bodywork and was therefore a completely new model in that sense.
That was different with the transition from Series 2 to Series 3 in 2010. That change focused on the cosmetic and brought a tighter nose to the little Lotus. A new shape for the air intake, a more tidy front bumper with reshaped and smaller air intakes and sleeker one-piece headlamps really give it a more modern look. At the rear we spot a new engine cover and a higher positioned number plate, which makes way for a differently shaped diffuser with a centrally positioned exhaust. Tighter? Secure! Better? Say it!
