For decades, Lotus was mainly concerned with lightweight two-seaters, but in 2023 it certainly does not shy away from also introducing models at the other end of the weight spectrum. Lotus already proved this in 2022 with the Eletre and that large electric SUV will now have an electric sporty top sedan. This is the Lotus Emeya, Lotus’ first sedan since the Lotus Omega!

When you say Lotus, you probably think mainly of lightweight two-seaters such as the Elan and the Elise or of illustrious models such as the Esprit. However, over the years the English have also supplied various models with – on paper – four seats. We mention the Elan+2, the Eclat, successor Excel and the Evora. There were also Eletre sedans with Lotus badges before the arrival of the electric SUV. Think of the two-door Ford Cortina Lotus and the Opel Omega-based Lotus Omega (Carlton). Lotus is now adding a new electric model to its line-up that positions it one step above the Eletre: the Emeya. The Lotus Emeya is Lotus’s first sedan since the Lotus Omega and is more than the converted Opel a product from its own home, but not entirely so.

In any case, the Lotus Emeya has its own completely unique body, but just like the Eletre, it stands on a variant of the EPA platform developed by the Chinese parent company Geely. Lotus describes the Emeya as “the brand’s first four-door hyper-GT”. That creates high expectations for his performance. The electrical weaponry that the Emeya is equipped with is impressive on paper at least. For example, the Emeya has 918 hp and 985 Nm of torque thanks to two electric motors. That power is sufficient to allow the sedan to sprint from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds, due to the presence of a 102 kWh battery. Its top speed: 256 km/h.

Lotus gives the Emeya active aerodynamics. For example, the grille and diffuser are equipped with moving parts and the rear spoiler is also variable. The electric sporty top sedan also has electronically controlled air suspension. Lotus does not report how far the Emeya can go on a full battery. We do know that the car can fast charge up to 350 kW. The English do indicate that the range of the Emeya will be comparable to that of the Eletre. The Lotus Eletre with a 918 hp electric motor and 102 kWh battery has a range of about 490 kilometers. The Eletre is also available with a 612 hp drivetrain with a range of about 600 kilometers. We expect the Emeya to also get this milder drivetrain.

Production of the Lotus Emeya will start next year. Lotus will release more information about its top sedan in the last quarter of this year. Information regarding the Dutch market – including prices – will only follow afterwards.
