Lucid Motors is on the cusp of its market debut with the all-electric Air. Image of that car in concept form has been circulating for years, but the brand now seems to have quietly placed a production-ready version on the internet.
The Lucid Air appeared as a promising concept 3.5 years ago, with which the very young brand hopes to gain a share of the market where Tesla has been represented with the Model S for years. The Air will be a luxurious and ultramodern electric powered sedan, with the necessary gadgets on board. Although the Air unveiled in 2016 was still a concept version, Lucid did not identify the car as such. Still, a teaser of the production version appeared earlier this year, so there seemed to be some changes in the works.
Now Lucid announces via a tweet that it also opens the order books for the Air in the Middle East, along with a photo of an Air that looks slightly different (photo 1). It therefore seems strongly that we finally have the production version in front of us here. As you can see on the teaser, the Air shows little difference with the concept version. There seems to be a slightly modified front bumper and one LED less per side. Furthermore, the Air looks like two drops of water on the already known car. Since the unveiling was scheduled for this month, this is likely to be the final form.
With the Air, Lucid hopes not only to offer a luxury alternative to the Tesla Model S, but the ambitious American company even wants to compete with cars such as the Mercedes S-class and BMW 7-series. Things like air suspension, (semi-) autonomous driving and a luxurious interior with high-quality materials should lift the Air to that level. A range of about 600 kilometers, 0-100 km / h in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 320 km / h; the Air is good for impressive numbers. The expected starting price of $ 60,000 (€ 55,000) is just as impressive, but it will be exciting if it stays that way. Now that the car is in the starting blocks, more will undoubtedly become known soon.
