Lynk & Co Zero brings good news for Volvo

Lynk & Co presents a new concept car, the Zero, which has much more in store than just a preview of the future of Lynk & Co. The basis is a brand new modular EV platform from parent company Geely. We will of course also see that at Volvo and Polestar.

Geely has been preparing a brand new scalable EV platform for the past three years. It will be called SEA, which stands for Sustainable Experience Architecture. It is an ‘open source’ basis, which means that Geely opens it up for other manufacturers to use and improve. According to Geely, it is essential to work together on cleaner mobility and less impact on the climate. Nobel of course, but first the various subsidiary brands of Geely will benefit from this. For us here in Europe this is of course especially interesting because of Volvo and Polestar.

Geely SEA platform

The base is extremely flexible, according to Geely, so it can be used for all kinds of segments and drivetrain configurations. One, two or three electric motors, possibly supplemented with a range extender, it should all be possible. In addition, Geely has developed engines for this basis that enable accelerations from 0-100 km / h in ‘less than 3 seconds’. The placement of the battery packs must also ensure that as much interior space as possible is preserved and that the batteries contribute to the stiffness and crash safety of the car.

It all sounds promising and you can bet that we will see a lot of this in the near future. Fully electric models from Volvo, among others, as well as new EVs from Polestar, will probably start using this at some point in the next five years. So you can count on it that much more will be possible for those brands in the electrical field.

Zero Concept

Before that happens, Geely’s young electric brand Lynk & Co will have the honor of kicking off with the SEA base. The Zero Concept in the pictures is the car that, it seems, will be launched on the SEA platform next year in roughly the form presented here. The body shape is a bit difficult to place; Lynk & Co itself speaks of a ‘touring coupé’. To get an idea of the dimensions, the wheelbase is 3 meters long, around 20 centimeters longer than cars like the Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3.

Lynk & Co Zero Concept

Lynk & Co does not reveal much about the car, as the full unveiling is planned for the Beijing Motor Show that starts next weekend. What they already want to say is that the production version will have a range of 700 km (NEDC) and will be able to accelerate to 100 km / h in less than 4 seconds. Furthermore, the car will receive over-the-air updates for infotainment and other digital matters and there will be a voice assistant that works with ‘leading’ artificial intelligence.
