Apple tea is not only soothing and warming, the fruity tea is also said to have a positive effect on your health. You can find out how to make and prepare apple tea yourself here.

Apple tea is very popular because of its fruity-sweet aroma – and it’s also healthy.

The tea is usually made from the dried skins of apples. In some cases, whole apples are also used. The dried apple pieces are an integral part of many tea blends. You can also enjoy apple tea pure.

In this article we will show you how you can make the fruity tea yourself and what health benefits it brings.

Unfortunately, apple tea from the supermarket is often provided with artificial flavors or contaminated with chemical-synthetic pesticides. You can avoid this by making apple tea yourself.

You can use apple peel for this. This way you can save money and also do your part to prevent food waste. So that your apple tea is as unpolluted as possible, you should use apples of organic quality. In principle, all apple varieties are suitable.

If you want to use whole apples for the tea, cut the apples into fine rings, similar to apple chips.

How to make apple tea yourself:

  1. Spread out the apple peels or apple rings on some kitchen paper or baking paper.
  2. In summer you can simply lay the apples out in the sun to dry. In winter you can dry the shells in the oven at a low temperature (about 50 degrees). Leave a crack in the oven to allow the moisture to escape. Tip: Use the remaining residual heat after using the oven to dry the apple skins. This is how you can save electricity. The apple skins should be dry at the end, but remain slightly elastic due to the pectin they contain.
  3. Crush the fully dried apple skins and fill them in a sealable jar. Keep the jar in a dry and dark place so that the aroma lasts as long and intensively as possible.

Tip: Optionally, you can refine your apple tea with cinnamon, cloves or dried ginger.

For a cup of apple tea (250 milliliters) you need about a teaspoon of dried apple peel. The preparation is very easy:

  1. First bring the water to a boil.
  2. Fill the apple peels into a tea strainer and then pour the hot water over the peels.
  3. Let the tea steep for five to fifteen minutes. The longer you let the apple tea steep, the more intense the taste will be.

Apple tea is ideal for tea blends. The apples give green tea or herbal teas a fruity note. In Turkey, on the other hand, apple tea is traditionally prepared with black tea and fresh apples. You can also refine mulled wine or punch with dried apple peels.

In summer you can also prepare a refreshing cold extract with the dried apple peels:

  1. Pour half a liter of water over two tablespoons of dried apple peels.
  2. Optionally, you can add a sprig of lemon balm or mint to make the cold apple tea taste particularly fresh.
  3. Leave the mixture in your fridge overnight.

It is well known that apples are healthy. After bananas, they are the most consumed fruit in the world.

A 2016 study did a comprehensive look at the health benefits of apples. In addition to fiber, valuable vitamins and minerals, the fruits are rich in secondary plant substances. Tea is a good source for absorbing plant substances such as polyphenols or flavonoids. These have been shown to help reduce the risk of various chronic diseases. These include above all:

  • cardiovascular diseases
  • asthma
  • various cancers
  • diabetes

In addition, the secondary plant substances contained have a strong antioxidant effect. They help to reduce oxidative stress and support the body in cell renewal. They naturally slow down the aging process.

Traditionally, apple tea is used for various ailments. However, these effects have not been scientifically proven. The fruity tea is said to help with the following complaints:

  • rheumatic complaints
  • gout
  • indigestion
  • nervousness
  • exhaustion
