Marking a read mail as ‘unread’ is easy in Gmail. You may have seen the content, but in the list of messages the mail still appears to be unopened.
Make mail appear unread
There are several reasons to make an email unread. For example, you want it to stand out in the Inbox because you still have something to do with it. Or you accidentally opened an email that was actually intended for someone else. In short: it is sometimes useful to make an already opened message look ‘new’ and unread again.
In Gmail, this isn’t that hard. There are two ways to do this: right-click and menu. The two ways are different, but the effect is the same: marking a mail as unread. Some people don’t like right click. Then the second method described is more pleasant.
Using the right mouse button
- Open the website www.gmail.com
- If necessary, log in with your Gmail address and password.
- Right-click on the email you want to make unread.
- click on Mark as unread.
The mail gets the bold of unread messages again. Want to make an unread message look properly opened? Then follow the same steps, but click on Mark as read.
Through the menu
You can also make opened emails look unread again in the following way:
- Click on the box for a previously opened email.
- Click the button with the three dots above the list of emails:
- click on Mark as unread.
