Many lease drivers no longer want an electric car, now that the low addition is higher

Why would you still lease an electric car if the addition benefit disappears? Business drivers struggle with that question. The low addition goes from 12 percent on the first 40,000 euros to 16 percent on the first 35,000 euros. And 82 percent of lease drivers no longer find that an incentive to opt for an EV.

You can hardly speak of a pronounced additional tax benefit for electric cars. For a fuel car you are at 22 percent, for an EV from 2021 at 16 percent. And that is no longer enough for many business drivers. Research by ALD Automotive among more than a thousand lease drivers shows that 82 percent no longer finds the low addition to be an incentive to opt for electric.

Due to the high addition, back to fuel car

The new addition is also a tricky point among people who already drive electrically for business purposes. Almost 45 percent of them indicate that they will return to a fuel lease car because of the higher addition or that they are still in doubt. “The increase in the addition comes too early,” says Jeroen Kruisweg, director of ALD Automotive. “The supply of affordable electric cars is increasing, but the government is quickly withdrawing.”

Electric car insufficiently financially stimulated

Half of the lease drivers surveyed believe that the business use of electric cars is currently insufficiently stimulated. An even higher percentage – 68 percent – thinks more financial incentives should be put in place to get individuals into EVs. They think the subsidy of 3350 euros that you can get on a new electric car from 1 January is not enough.

Most electric drivers want an electric car again

56 percent of business drivers with an electric car are satisfied and would like to drive an EV again, provided that the government continues to provide sufficient financial incentives. Strangely enough, only 35 percent say they have opted for a plug model for financial reasons. Nearly 50 percent claim to have made the right choice for the environment. But something in us says that’s a socially desirable response…
