Grab the banana peels and turtle shells and get ready for Nintendo’s latest iOS game: Mario Kart Tour is available to download now.
Nintendo brings Mario Kart to iPhone and iPad
When Nintendo announced that they would be making smartphone games a few years ago, many people were already hoping for a Mario Kart for iOS and Android. That day has arrived today with the release of Mario Kart Tour, a game that can be downloaded for free from the App Store.
Since you now control Mario or one of the other characters with a touchscreen instead of a controller, Tour will probably play differently than you are used to. Just like with Super Mario Run, Nintendo has chosen to make the entire game playable with one finger: you control by swiping the screen and by tapping the screen you can drift and throw objects at your rivals.
The more times you reach the finish line, the more stars you earn to unlock new kart cars and racers, for example. Online multiplayer is unfortunately not part of Tour, but you can challenge your friends by achieving the highest possible position in the rankings.
In order to always offer you something new, the range of available race tracks changes every two weeks. These consist of a fun mix of new levels and revamped versions of classic race tracks that Mario Kart veterans will undoubtedly know.
Pay attention: When installing Mario Kart Tour, you may encounter a message stating that maintenance is in progress. This would be completed between 9am and 10am after which the game will be available to everyone.
Download Mario Kart Tour
Mario Kart Tour is free to download, but does have in-app purchases to unlock new characters and other upgrades faster. However, you can also earn these by simply playing the game.
