At Milan Design Week, Maserati is showing the new GranTurismo in three unique flavours. Especially the GranTurismo Ouroboros, a copy full of retro elements, is interesting.

To avoid confusion, let’s start today with an overview of the three GranTurismos in question:

  • The apparently chromed GranTurismo is the GranTurismo One Off Luce
  • The multicolored GranTurismo is the Maserati GranTurismo One Off Prisma.
  • The black car is the Maserati GranTurismo Ouroboros

The three unique versions of the new GranTurismo are of course not intended to be really sold, but primarily to draw attention to the new and already quite striking model. Maserati does this during Milan Design Week and with the help of people like David Beckham and musician and ‘street culture innovator’ (in Maserati’s words) Hiroshi Fujiwara. The latter is responsible for the GranTurismo Ouroboros. This is the only one of the three presented GranTurismos that not only has a unique skin, but also really differs from the original in terms of design. The electric car borrows all kinds of elements from Maseratis of the past. The hollow wheels resemble those of the Bora of the 1970s, the side vents are inspired by those of the 3500G of the 1950s and the round headlights hark back to a variety of Maseratis from the distant past. The 80s and 90s have also been thought of: this more recent period is reflected in the black taillights, said to be inspired by those of the bizarre Shamal.

The result is certainly sensational and in many ways goes beyond the Luce and the Prima. Not to leave it undiscussed: the fiercely shiny, almost mirror-like Luxe is based on the electric GranTurismo Folgore. The car is especially special for those who come closer, because then the bizarre, engraved pattern in the side stands out even more. The GranTurismo Prisma has a V6 and is hand painted in no less than fourteen different colours. Again it is important to look carefully, because then it turns out that letters have also been applied to the carriage. 8,500 to be exact, placed in such a way that the names of all kinds of historic Maserati models can be seen.
