A strong wind of innovation is suddenly blowing at Maserati. The MC20 is still fresh, the brand is working on a new GranTurismo and now reports that it will take the Grecale on the podium before the end of the year.
Sports car manufacturers can no longer ignore an SUV. Porsche has had the Cayenne and Macan for years, Lamborghini the Urus, Aston Martin the DBX and even Lotus and Ferrari come with high-legged. Maserati has been participating in the SUV segment since 2016 with the Levante, a car that will soon have a smaller SUV next to it. That car is called Grecale and will finally be unveiled on November 16.
The Grecale looks set to be one of the last, if not the last, new car to use Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform, a base we know from the Giulia and Stelvio. The Grecale is designed in accordance with the new Maserati house style that debuted on the MC20, a design that Maserati will eventually also apply to the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio. You don’t have to count on a fully electric Grecale, although there will probably be a mild-hybrid version, such as the one that recently also existed from the Ghibli.
On November 16, we will know more, when the Grecale, which, like the Mistral, Ghibli, Bora, Merak, Khamsin and Levante, is named after a wind, will be officially presented. The Maserati Grecale seems to be a direct competitor of the Porsche Macan, although it still depends on the engine versions of the Grecale which Macan variant it targets.
