Maserati Project24 is MC20, but without rules

Maserati comes under the working name Project24 with an extreme track car based on MC20. It not only shows that car, but also gives the necessary specifications.

The Maserati Project24, as we will also call the car, has little in common with the MC20 optically. Although we think we recognize the roofline and the ‘middle nave’ of that new supercar, the nose and butt are completely different. More extreme, especially with large air intakes, frantic light units and a gigantic rear wing, partly held in the air by a central ‘fin’.

This is all possible, because the Project24 is not bound by any rules. Not to the requirements that RDW-like authorities set for road cars, but probably also not to the limitations of a racing class. It will be a circuit toy with which owners themselves, whether or not under the rule of Maserati, can get to work. A car in the spirit of the Ferrari FXX(-KEvo), or Maserati’s own MC12 Edizione Corse.

That seems pretty pointless, but has the advantage that the engineers can go completely wild on the assignment ‘make this the fastest and most spectacular car possible’. To achieve this, new turbos are installed, among other things. This brings the Nettuno V6 to 740 hp instead of 630. A firmly modified chassis, ceramic brake discs, circuit tires and sophisticated aerodynamics do the rest. Oh, and then there is of course the theme of ‘weight saving’. By saying goodbye to all the comfort-enhancing things, this car weighs no more than 1,250 kg, so that each horsepower only needs to tow 1.69 kg. The Maserati ‘Project24’ is also exclusive: only 62 copies will be built.
