Maserati waves out the V8

Another era over?

Maserati waves out the V8

Maserati announces that it will soon retire its well-known biturbo V8. This is the end of it for V8 engines at the Italian brand. Of course it can’t let that happen without a fight.

These are tough times for enthusiasts of large fuel engines. It almost seems to be raining press releases announcing the end of V12s, V8s or even six-cylinder engines. Now Maserati reports. That will soon wave goodbye to the Ferrari-derived F154 engine. The almost 600 hp biturbo V8 that you can currently find in the Maserati’s Quattroporte, Ghibli and Levante. Maserati can also handle the newer Nettuno V6 quite well, but that does not make saying goodbye to the wonderfully sounding eight-cylinder any less painful.

Maserati also thinks it’s quite a moment and will therefore reflect on it this coming weekend during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It does that with two special models; the Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima and Maserati Levante V8 Ultima. ‘Ultima’ of course means ‘the last’ and ‘334’ in the Ghibli 334 Ultima stands for the top speed in km/h. The Ghibli is therefore just a bit faster, normally the top is at 326 km / h. We only get a few glimpses of the goodbye versions, but it is clear that Maserati gives them some external references to the farewell party. According to Maserati, it was soon over with the V8 and this is the end of ‘a long line of GTs from Maserati with V8’.

AutoWeek drove the Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo two years ago. Listen to that lovely V8:
