Toy car brand Matchbox goes ‘green’. Mattel’s famous brand not only comes with models of electric cars, but also ensures that those cars are actually sustainable.
With toy cars, greening is of course somewhat different than in real life, since there are no (working) combustion engines here. The ‘sustainability’ here therefore consists of the materials used, but also, for example, of packaging that is less harmful to the environment. Matchbox wants all toy cars and packaging of the brand to be made of 100 percent recycled, recyclable or otherwise sustainable materials by 2030.
To reinforce its green ambitions, Matchbox is introducing a special model of the Tesla Roadster, the electric sports fan that is now planned for 2022. The small Roadster is completely CO2 neutral and comes in a new packaging without plastic.
The Tesla is also available as part of five ‘electric cars’, although six are shown in the accompanying photo and the Prius and the i8 are not completely electric. With these types of cars, Matchbox succeeds in any case in its previous ambition to ‘connect children with the world around them’.
