For a long time it has been doom and gloom with the sales figures, but with the nice weather, life in the showrooms also seems to be reviving. May 2021 did no less than 72.5 percent better than its namesake last year, although it was of course extremely difficult.
A plus of almost 73 percent compared to the same month last year sounds euphoric, of course, but unfortunately that says more about May 2020 than about the month we closed yesterday. About this time last year, we began to cautiously back out a bit, unaware of how long the crisis was going to last. However, the car registrations then suffered from a delayed effect of the corona outbreak and in May 2020 a rare low number of new passenger cars were registered as a result, with 14,842 units less than half the usual. But let’s look at the glass from the half full side: last May’s 25,601 pieces are well back in the direction of normal. This reduced the cumulative minus from -11.7 percent to -2.3 and that is quite reason for a small celebration. Especially an electric party, because that’s where the hot sandwiches come. Skoda is pouring the Enyaq over our country and Ford has unloaded a boat of Mustangs Mach-E. Please note: the figures below are for the entire month of May, but the EV top-10 has been calculated without the last day, because we do not have those figures complete at the moment.
Overall, we see a nice upward trend again with regard to electric cars; in April there were still 2,379 BEVs registered, up to and including May 30 there were already 2,882 last month. A beautiful spring, which will hopefully be followed by a sultry summer.
You can read the extensive sales figures with analysis in Techzle 23, which will be published on 9 June.
