Mazda 6 is calling it quits this year

Mazda is stopping production of the Mazda 6 in Japan, which raises the question of how long we will have it here. It turns out: this year the curtain will fall here too.

Japanese production of the Mazda 6 will come to an end this year and although that is not the only place where the Mazda 6 is built, it appears that the plug will also be pulled in the Netherlands this year. AutoWeek understands this when asked by the Dutch importer. It is not yet clear when exactly it will be over. For the time being, the Mazda 6 can still be ordered new.

The end of the Mazda 6 doesn’t really come as a big surprise. Mazda Netherlands freely admits that demand for the Mazda 6 has decreased and that it is shifting its focus to other segments. The Mazda’s CX-30, CX-5 and CX-60 are specifically mentioned. They do indeed sell considerably better. 2,638 of the CX-5 were sold last year, 1,504 of the still relatively fresh CX-60 and 1,344 of the CX-30. The Mazda 6 was limited to 209 units in 2023.

This is how we got to know the successor to the 626!

In total, since the arrival of the first Mazda 6 in 2002 (Zoom Zoom) 30,636 copies sold in our country. The first generation was also the most successful, with 2003 as the peak year (5,473 units).
