Mazda is expanding its model family this year with just two brand-new SUVs: the CX-60 and the CX-80. The first of these will soon make its public debut, but can already be seen quite well from all angles.

Mazda aficionados eager to see a new SUV from the brand should mark March 8 on the calendar as well. That is the day Mazda presents the first of two new SUVs to be introduced this year. It is about the CX-60, a model that also dives into the history books as the first plug-in hybrid of the brand.

The brand has proven for years that Mazda is a fairly stubborn club. Decades ago, the brand plunged into rotary engines and more recently, the brand made an impression with the innovative SkyActiv-X machines. Mazda is also on a stubborn course with the CX-60. Unlike the majority of SUVs, the all-new SUV is basically not a front-wheel drive. No, the CX-60 is on a brand new basically rear-wheel drive platform and also gets acquainted with special powertrains. The CX-60 will, among other things, get a more than 300 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain, making it Mazda’s first plug-in. The petrol engine of that plug-in is a 2.5 four-cylinder. But the stocking is not over yet. The Mazda CX-60 also gets a cool six-in-line petrol engines. The CX-60 also gets mild-hybrid diesels, another novelty for Mazda.

Although Mazda is quite surprising with the technology of the CX-60, the CX-60 seems to be less commotion in terms of design. This is mainly due to the fact that the CX-60 is clearly recognizable as Mazda. The well-known Mazda design is combined with new design elements. For example, the car has relatively small headlights with an LED turn signal that is placed outside and optically continues into the decorative element around the Mazda grille. We have already shown you the CX-60 without stickers.

The CX-60 will eventually be joined by the larger CX-80 in Europe. This pair will not come to the United States, where Mazda will bring the already unveiled CX-50 and CX-90 on the market.
