Dual SUV lineup
Meet a brand new SUV from Mazda. This is the Mazda CX-70, an SUV that will in a certain sense play the role of the CX-60 in the United States, among others.
The Mazda CX-60 will soon have a larger and more spacious brother in Europe: the CX-80. While the Mazda CX-60 is always a five-seater, the longer CX-80 is available with seven seats. That Mazda CX-80 is not coming to the United States. Instead of the CX-80, Mazda has come up with this CX-90 for the American consumer. The CX-60 also does not get American asphalt under its wheels, but it now also has an alternative for that car: this Mazda CX-70. Just like the CX-90, the CX-70 will not come to Europe. It is striking that Mazda first presented the largest newcomer (CX-90) for the American market and that the smaller one (this CX-70) came later. In Europe, the smaller one (CX-60) came first and we have to wait a little longer for the larger one (CX-80). Are we still there?
Especially from this angle the CX-70 differs from the CX-60.
The Mazda CX-70, like the larger CX-90, has great similarities with the CX-60 in terms of design style, although the American Mazda SUVs really have their own completely unique bodywork. Especially viewed from the rear, the CX-70 differs greatly from ‘our CX-60’. Where the CX-60 has a strongly rising shoulder line at the rear side window, the shoulder line of the CX-70 runs almost straight to the rear. The interior of the CX-70 looks exactly like the CX-90 and therefore resembles that of the Mazda CX-60 that you can buy in the Netherlands.
The American branch of Mazda has not yet released the exact dimensions of the Mazda CX-70, although it is certain that it is a size smaller than its 5.12 meter long big brother CX-90. Just like the CX-90, the CX-70 will be available in the United States with a blown mild-hybrid 3.3 inline-six petrol engine and with a plug-in hybrid powertrain where the petrol engine is a 2.5. Mazda is not yet releasing specifications. The CX-90 with the 3.3 inline six-cylinder turbo engine produces 284 hp and is also available in a 345 hp powerful form. The plug-in hybrid variant has a system power of 327 hp. Indeed: just like ‘our’ CX-60 with plug-in hybrid power plant.
The Mazda CX-70 and CX-90 are not the only SUVs from Mazda that it does supply in the United States and not in Europe. Side by side with the CX-5, this CX-50 is also on the menu.
