Before the end of the year, Mazda will draw the curtain on a brand new SUV with three rows of seats and therefore at least with a maximum of seven seats. That SUV is called Mazda CX-80 and can be seen for the first time in this set of photos. It is also coming to the Netherlands and will receive a plug-in hybrid powertrain, among other things.

The Mazda CX-60 is – if we forget the MX-30 R-EV – the most recent addition to the European Mazda range. The CX-60 is certainly not the last new SUV with which the brand bombards our market. After all, Mazda is bringing a new SUV to our continent this year. That is the CX-80 and it offers everything that the CX-60 also offers. And more.

Mazda CX-60

Especially when viewed from the side, the difference in size between the CX-80 and this CX-60 is striking.

You should consider the Mazda CX-80 as a CX-60 with a size more. The SUV will be longer than the CX-60 and the extra centimeters that it is longer will provide enough space for the arrival of a third row of seats. Where the CX-60 is always a five-seater, the CX-80 offers space for at least seven occupants thanks to an extra row of seats. That the CX-80 is coming is no surprise. The car was announced at the same time as the CX-60 and two other SUVs. The other two are the yet to be revealed CX-70 and the already presented CX-90. This duo is intended for the North American market. The CX-60 and CX-80 are reserved for Europe and – probably – the Japanese domestic market, among others.

Mazda CX-90

The Mazda CX-90, like the yet to be launched CX-70, is reserved for the American market.

Like the Mazda CX-60, the CX-80 will be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. In addition, depending on the country where it is sold, the SUV is available with six-in-line petrol and diesel engines. Not only on a technical level are the similarities with the CX-60 great, the design of the CX-80 is also recognizable. The roofline of the CX-80 extends further back than that of the CX-60, the rear doors are longer and the rear side window of Mazda’s seven-seater is larger than the one of the CX-60. Seen straight from the back and from the front, the CX-80 can hardly be distinguished from the CX-60. Finally, we expect the dashboards of both models to be identical.
